Inspiration takes many forms, yet a tiny, delicate pencil drawing by master craftsman Henry Simpole has become the foundation for one of the most beautiful writing instruments ever created by Onoto.
Stylish, elegant and tactile, this new Onoto fountain pen follows a proud tradition of making filigree overlays dating back to the 1910s. Staying true to that period and combining design influences from Art Nouveau, this simple sketch has turned into a masterpiece of pen design – with a hidden secret! Look closely at Henry’s initial sketch on the left and you’ll see the letters ‘O-N-O-T-O’ embedded into the design, starting from the top left.
Issued in 3 elegant finishes – in sterling silver, gilded sterling silver (vermeil) and 18 carat gold, each one hand-made in small limited editions, the Onoto Overlay No 1 is a pen with a superb pedigree.
Pen connoisseurs around the world cherish vintage Onoto overlays with passion as they believe they are some of the best overlay pens ever made. So when a new Onoto overlay was agreed, there was only one man to design it – Henry Simpole, a silversmith who already has a global reputation for his modern bespoke overlays. His design for Onoto has already been universally acclaimed, and the Onoto Overlay Number 1 will surely become one of the most sought after “pen amongst pens” for collectors around the world in years to come.
Each Onoto Overlay No 1 pen comes with a special booklet on Henry Simpole – the silversmith and craftsman behind this very special Onoto pen. In addition you will receive the following with your pen: a Certificate of Authenticity showing the limited edition number, an Onoto History booklet, a blotter, a care leaflet, an explanation of English hall-marks, and a cleaning cloth to keep your pen in superb glittering condition!
